Childcare Diary – Chapter 3

Translator Note: So I was reviewing some of the Korean with my friend and realized that I had mistakenly translated that Marie had two younger brothers! Google Translate’s auto-translation of ‘동생’ (dong-saeng) is ‘younger brother’ which isn’t correct because the term is actually non-gendered. So this entire time, I didn’t bother thinking twice and thought that she had two younger brothers, which isn’t correct because Ellie is her younger sibling and Ellie is a girl! I had been so confused about Ellie for the longest time too… I was like Who is this kid… lolol.

Anyway, hope you’re looking forward to some cute quality bath time with baby Briel, Marie, and the Count ~

“Bu bu bu!!!”

Briel stretched his arms towards Marie, and his feet stomped on the floor excitedly.

He seemed to know that Marie had brought snacks just by seeing the familiar bowl she brought out.

“Wait.”

Placing the bowl aside as she fixed the pillow comfortably around Briel to support him, his small head followed the movement of the bowl.

“I prepared an apple today.”

The young master Briel’s snack changed every day. Among the various snacks, Briel’s favorite was sweet or sour fruit.

When he put in a little bit enough to fit in his small mouth, he scrunched his nose into a small grimace and blinked his eyes.

“So cute.” Marie exclaimed without a doubt.

She thought that Briel would stop eating because he turned his head and gave her a look like he was confused why such a taste existed in the world.

“Bubu!”

However, when the initial sour taste finally passed, Briel seemed to be addicted to it just as he was seemingly addicted to making that cute frowning expression.

She scooped up another spoonful and put it in his mouth as soon as he asked for it.

Then he seemed to not know what to do again after tasting it for the second time, so he merely opened and closed his eyes in response.

“Is it yummy?”

“Eu! Eu!”

Now at eight months, Briel was trying to communicate in other words besides his usual babbling noises.

“Are you trying to say ‘Yes’?” [T/N: earlier he said 으으 here which is one character away from 응응 which means ‘yes yes.’]

Marie didn’t know if that was what Briel was actually saying, so it was only a matter of her own understanding.

“Okay, this is the last bite. Ah~”

Briel opened his mouth like a baby bird and frowned while winking both his eyes at the last taste of sourness.

‘It’s too bad I can’t take a photo.’

Marie shook her head as she thought it was unfortunate that these cute expressions would remain only in her mind.

After unexpectedly eating everything in the bowl, Briel’s head began to slip slightly to the one side.

Since he had eaten all the snacks, it was time to take a nap.

Marie gently hugged Briel and hummed an unfamiliar tune.

‘Eventually, if I play music for him, it’ll be good to do it for a few months… What would be a good way to do this here…’

For a brief moment, it seemed that he knew Marie’s thoughts about him, and Briel’s light snores and breathing seemed to harmonize with her song.

“Count.”

The Count increased the time he spent in the mansion after that time when he witnessed Briel being able to sit by himself. Since seeing Briel at that time, he decided that he wasn’t going to miss any more of his nephew’s precious first moments.

But when he arrived at the mansion, despite having to leave do some work, he raised his head at Marie’s call.

Then his gaze turned to his nephew in Marie’s arms. He had a slightly distressed expression as he noticed the way his nephew looked at him.

“Wait a minute, please come over here.”

In a rushed voice as though Marie was in a hurry, she moved quickly without giving him any time to greet Briel.

He wasn’t aware, but Marie kept on rushing only because he had been waiting today.

“Where are you going?”

She didn’t respond to his words and continued walking forward as he came near.

“Here… Why… ”

The place where the three people soon arrived was the room adjacent to Briel’s bedroom. There was a large portable bathtub prepared.

“Please come closer.”

Marie spoke as she started to take off Briel’s close, leaving the Count confused.

“Are you trying to give him a bath?”

The Count curiously asked while next to the bathtub.

“What is this?”

The bathtub wasn’t just water. Something black was floating around also.

“Seaweed.”

Marie said it in a casual way, but she actually had secret expectations. She prepared it for Briel and was excited when imagining him playing with it.

She wanted to give Briel the touch-play she’d done as a kid at the community center once, but she was struggling to find a way to do this properly. Even if this was a Count’s home, she was concerned because she wanted to use a little food to help with Briel’s development despite being in an era where there were starving people outside.

Therefore, she was finally able to find something in the kitchen while looking around with the possibility of discovering some insignificant surplus ingredients.

Seaweed strips.

It was a seaweed that she hadn’t expected to find because this novel had a medieval western setting, but it seemed that this seaweed was used as a cooking ingredient. Maybe because it was in a novel, there were some differences with the seaweeds from her world and this world.

When Marie saw that the chef was going to throw away the seaweed after boiling it in the water, she offered to take it and then brought it here. Afterwards, a portable bathtub was prepared as well.

Perhaps it was because the Count was at the mansion, but she didn’t know if that was why she was more worried than usual. Maybe she was actually worried that the seaweed would go bad or something.

Despite this, when she heard that he was going to do work at the mansion, she prepared this bathtub-seaweed combination.

It was her own scheme to bring the Count and Briel closer by having them do touch-play together.

He had been dragged along without knowing anything, and when he opened his mouth to say something, the nanny put more seaweed in the bathtub. In addition, he became speechless at her casual response.

“What are you doing right now?”

After previously seeing the nanny’s peculiar method of having Briel practice flipping over on the bed, he had sheathed his sword while feeling extremely embarrassed at the misunderstanding, so this time, he inquired with as little emotion as possible.

“Touch-play.”

“What…? Touch-play?”

“Yes. It’s good for muscle development. It’s also good for emotional development.”

“But how do you play with this…”

He frowned because he thought this sort of play was incomprehensible.

“Just like this.”

And then just as she was immersing Briel in the bathtub, he stopped her in a hurry.

“You just need to let the young master enter the bathtub and play with the seaweed. It’s better if you play with the seaweed from the side.”

“Oh… no, but… ”

After hearing Marie’s explanation, he realized that it wasn’t a dangerous game. He knew that the seaweed was harmless, but the worrisome visuals made him hesitant to immerse his nephew Briel in the bathtub.

“Aiya*, please take a look carefully.” [T/N: she says 아이참* which is like an exasperated expression lol]

As he briefly hugged the baby, she pulled a small piece of seaweed out of the bathtub. Then she made caterpillar eyebrows for Briel.

“How’s this?”

Briel was curious about the slippery sensation and grabbed the seaweed eyebrows with his hands. Then he waved his arms back and forth in an excited manner.

“Then let’s get started in earnest.”

Carefully handing Briel back to Marie, the nanny was finally able to put the baby in the bathtub.

“Bububu!!”

When warm water was added, Briel laughed, raising his voice.

“Then, just like this. Please try doing it, Count.”

Finally settling Briel into the bathtub, Marie gave the Count a demonstration of the seaweed.

He looked at the seaweed in his hand.

There’s nothing he can do since Briel likes it so much.’

Following Marie’s example, he gently rubbed the seaweed on his nephew’s body. Ticklish, Briel’s babbling became even louder as he waved his arms excitedly.

“Do you like it, young master?”

She unfolded a handkerchief she had set aside, soaked it in the warm water, and covered Briel’s upper body with it.

“Why is this…”

“So that he doesn’t get too cold.”

“Ah… ”

He reflected on her meticulous consideration. While he worried by himself about the issues of playing with seaweed, the nanny was happily playing with Briel.

As the Count lightly splashed the water in front of Briel, the excited baby enthusiastically waved his arms towards his uncle. Thanks to that, some of the water in the bathtub splashed onto the man.

“Are you okay?”

His front body was soaked wet.

Marie handed over the towel she had placed aside, and she blushed when she saw his transparent white shirt clinging to his broad muscular chest.

How do you even have the time to exercise.’

He didn’t look like someone who sat at a desk all day. The towel in her hand lost its direction due to her hurried glance. Marie’s hand reached past his outstretched hand and moved close to his shoulder. This, she lost her sense of balance.

Marie, who was suddenly trapped in his arms, panicked. “Sorry.”

He was also speechless with embarrassment and didn’t know what to do. At that moment, Marie’s consciousness returned at the sound of Briel’s laughter which had broken up the subtle flowing atmosphere that surrounded them.

“Cough…”

He cleared his throat and hurriedly resumed playing with Briel. The Count’s face was a little red as Marie moved away to clean up the water that Briel had splashed around.

“What are you making?”

A few days had passed since they did the touch-play. Ellie, who came to Briel’s room, asked what Marie was making.

“A doll.”

It was actually an doll that could help with attachment issues. When thinking about the time a child’s period of attachment began, she felt that it was a little late, but she still wanted to make it for Briel with her own hands. It took longer than expected to make it while using Briel’s nap time.

“No way… that’s for the young master?”

Marie, who laughed secretly after hearing Ellie’s words, stroked the child’s hair. The young girl was a rather precocious child, but when Marie saw this, she felt that Ellie was just like any other child.

Suddenly sulking, the child turned her gaze away from the stitches Marie had placed and looked at the floor.

“Yep.”

Ellie was so cute when asking that Marie held back and only replied with this one word despite seeing the child’s cheeks pouting.

‘She’s going to go cry. I just couldn’t resist playing a prank.’

“The young master’s doll is going to be a bear.”

“Y-Yeah?”

Ellie’s face turned back towards her. What Marie was clearly making was a rabbit doll however.

“Then…this one?”

When the voice full of anticipation turned to her, Marie spoke with a bright expression. “Of course, it’s yours. But I’m going to make this part bigger, so you have to wait just a little longer. Do you think you can wait till then?

“Yeah!”

She could see how excited Ellie was by the way she quickly nodded her head and answered.

Marie was reminded of the shock she had received when she returned home with Ellie for the first time since arriving in this world. It seemed that the only thing the younger siblings possessed in that house were clothes resembling rags.  There weren’t any dolls or toys at all.

Marie felt sorry for the children when thinking that the body’s original owner only used the money she earned from the Count’s family on basic clothes and food for the two children without ever thinking of making dolls like this to give to her younger siblings.

Tears fell when she looked at the lovable Ellie. But she quickly wiped her tears away so that the child wouldn’t see.

“It wasn’t scary last night?”

“Not scary. It was okay because the knights were guarding outside.”

There had been one more thing she had been surprised about after entering this world. Since Briel was still young and she had to spend most of her time at the Count’s mansion, only the two younger siblings were left at home.

After discovering this, Marie asked the Count if she could stay with her siblings in the servants’ quarters, and he was kind enough to allow it.

Thanks to this, Marie’s family of three were able to stay in the mansion.

Marie remembered her gratitude for this favor and returned to sewing.

A sudden crisis appeared in the usually smooth daily life of Briel and Marie.

The cause was a diaper.

“Now, young master. Let’s try to lie down.”

“Bu! Bu! Ro! Ro!”

She didn’t know why, but he started making a fuss whenever she laid him down to change diapers.

Even now, he turned over and crawled away to escape. He was so fast, it seemed like she spent the entire day chasing him around the room.

“Young master, look at this.”

Thus, Marie’s method was to distract him with an interesting object. Fortunately, he seemed to like the bear doll she made quite a bit. But even when he hesitated after seeing the doll, he still ran away.

“Okay, shall we lie down with the teddy bear?”

And at that time, Erin, who was quietly waiting by the side, managed to catch the childish young master.

“Bu! Ah! Bu!”

Although Briel was flustered, he struggled angrily but there was no way he could outdo Erin’s strength. Eventually, he was forced to lie down and wear diapers.

Briel stared at the teddy bear waved in front of his face and then looked at Marie with an annoyed expression but it was no use.

Marie gently poked the creased forehead on the young master who looked at her with a serious expression. Then he turned his head away decisively. When Marie and Erin burst into laughter, Briel’s brows furrowed even deeper.

When he did this, he looked so much like his uncle Count.

“There, now you’re all done.”

And because he was afraid that Erin wouldn’t let go, Briel quickly embraced the teddy bear and buried his face there.

Childcare Diary – Chapter 2

Translator Note: Wow, translating the second chapter was a lot easier than the first for some reason… ∑(O_O;) Maybe it’s because I worked out a translating method? And I think I was less strict about translating word for word and making direct translations, so it was easier this time around. Hopefully things still made sense!

^ This is how I imagine Briel looks like when his cheeks get squished together. (*¯︶¯*)

“Alright, let’s practice walking today.

“Me too, me too big sis!”

Attached to Marie’s side was Ellie who had rosy cheeks and short hair tied up into two pigtails.

Although Ellie was Marie’s second younger sibling with a large age gap, she was also one of the key people who contributed to Marie’s role in becoming the nanny to the Count’s family. This child, who has lived within the mansion for a while, suddenly said that she wanted to take care of Briel.

It’s dangerous.’

There weren’t soft baby mats here like in Marie’s old world, so if Briel fell on his face, it’d leave a bump on his head.

“So that he doesn’t fall over, we can just walk and hold hands next time, okay?”

“Hmph.” Wanting to do it by herself, Ellie made a pouty face because she hated being told no, and she looked at Briel and Marie with an upset expression.

“Young master, your legs are quite strong now when getting up.” Every time he tried to put strength in his legs, the puffy diaper with the bouncing butt always put a smile on Marie’s face.

“Where? I want to see too!”

Thus, Ellie carefully poked Briel’s chubby legs with her finger. “Ooh~” Even though nothing could be felt because Briel wore fluffy pants, Ellie still marveled at the feeling.

Regardless of Marie and Ellie’s reactions, Briel held tightly onto Marie’s hand for a while despite having a hard time.

The chubby butt swayed as he continued moving forward. Even though the baby was tired in the middle and almost gave up, he still moved towards the goal with a face red from exertion.

“Oh my, you’ve come so far, young master.”

Briel’s goal was his nanny.

Marie had left him alone to organize the cloth diapers for awhile, but she smiled at the baby who slowly approached her.

As he was slowly growing up, Briel would sometimes look for Marie like this.

When she quickly reached over to hug him, there was a burst of laughter from Briel’s mouth in satisfaction.

“How can you be so lovely~?” Such a happy Briel was so cute that Marie couldn’t resist rubbing his cheeks.

This wasn’t the only change in the 7 month-old young master. Just a month ago, he could only stand up still with all his strength, but now he could move his legs to waddle.

“The Count will be very happy seeing you grow like this.”

Although, since his tall uncle seemed to be of mixed genes, it seemed like Briel would also grow to become one of the tallest in the kingdom someday. Sadly, despite Briel growing so steadily, the Count hadn’t been able to come see him for a while. It seemed the Count was unable to leave the royal palace because he was busy trying to finish the accounting books by the end of the year.

“Young master, the Count is going to be so surprised when he comes back.”

Briel liked waving his fists as if he knew that she was talking about his uncle.

The black horse raced and ran through the night.

“Welcome back.”

After the Count finished his work, he finally returned to the mansion.

He nodded once towards the welcoming butler and asked while walking quickly. “Is he sleeping right now?” Although it was very late at night, he asked because he knew that babies sometimes had irregular sleep schedules.

Although the Count didn’t specify ‘who’ he was asking about, the butler quickly knew who his master was referring to.

“He is sleeping.”

The Count didn’t get to hear the answer he wanted. He had some hope that Briel might still be awake, but was now noticeably disappointed.

“I see.”

However, there was still someone to greet him. It was the nanny.

“You’ve returned.”

“Yes… Has he been well?”

“Of course. He’s asleep right now, but if you go in quietly, it should be okay to look at him for a while.”

When the Count had arrived at the mansion earlier, Marie had been smiling happily as she saw him from the window. Although he didn’t do much, his quick steps indicated how excited he was to come see his beloved nephew.

After she spoke, he took off his outer coat that was cold from being outside and carefully walked into the room where Briel slept.

“He looks like he’s lost weight.” As his eyes adapted to the dark room, the baby’s sleeping figure was a little more noticeable. Clearly, the belly that usually stuck out slightly seemed to be a little flatter than before. He spoke these words quietly to Marie while standing and observing his nephew’s face after a long time.

“It’s because he’s been very active recently.”

When she saw the Count reacting in a slightly unusual way, she looked forward to seeing how he would react tomorrow when Briel was actually awake.

You will be even more amazed to see how the young master has changed tomorrow.’

The Count continued to watch Briel’s sleeping profile in the dark for a while before reaching out towards the cheeks that were puffy and round.

“Please wait a moment, Count.”

His hand was once again blocked by her.

“If you touch him with your cold hands, he might wake up. Also, you haven’t washed your hands yet, have you?”

“Sigh…”

He had to be satisfied by just looking again.

Marie smiled at the obedient Count.

‘It seems the Count’s life has been getting a bit more difficult.’

Perhaps he was motivated to work hard because of Briel, but he seemed to be having a hard time at the palace.

But even then, he seemed to be more handsome.’

He survived the work hardships and seemed to have lost a bit of weight, making him appear even more masculine.

“Is something wrong?”

She had been staring at him in the dark, so she thought that he couldn’t notice her gaze, but when the Count turned his head to ask her, Marie panicked.

“Ah… Nothing! I just need to sing a lullaby to the young master…” She bit her tongue, realizing what a clumsy excuse it was to say that she needed to sing a lullaby to an already sleeping baby.

When the Count was silent, Marie could only sigh and began to lightly hum a lullaby. The face of the nanny was reflected in the moonlight that illuminated the room. Although she was clearly tired after a long day of taking care of Briel, the smile on her face was very warm. Enough to make one’s heart flutter.

He didn’t realize that a gentle smile was already engraved on his face when looking at her.

When Marie felt something warm near her stomach, she naturally hugged the warmth.

‘Ah, feels good.’

She had fallen asleep late last night and was chilled by the cold morning.

“Bububu.”

‘Huh?’

However, when she heard the familiar sound coming from the warmth in her arms, she opened her eyes with surprise.

“Young master. How did you get here…”

Sometimes, when she couldn’t always watch him closely, she would put the thick blankets on the floor as a make-shift bed instead of letting him sleep on the Western-style bed. Then she’d make a wall of fluffy cushions around him, but a few days ago, Briel grabbed at them, so it seemed that today, he was able to make his escape.

“Did you sleep well?” Marie greeted and asked Briel with a smile but then quickly changed to a strict expression. “You shouldn’t come over like that. You could have hurt yourself.”

For the sake of emergencies, the surroundings were laid with thick blankets, but Briel, who was still growing, could have hurt himself.

“I should be a little more careful when making the bed next time.”

However, Briel seemed to notice her dissatisfied expression and began to enthusiastically cry out loud.

“Bububu! Ro! Bububu! Ro!”

Marie, who originally had a strange expression, smiled to appease him, and the baby’s babble finally stopped.

“Okay, it’s time for breastfeeding.”

Marie wasn’t pregnant, so of course this was something she couldn’t do.

Every morning, there was a wet nurse who fed Briel, and this wet nurse was the middle-aged woman named Erin who Marie had seen when she had first opened her eyes in this world. Because she also had a baby, Erin couldn’t be entirely responsible for Briel, and because Briel was the Count’s heir, he couldn’t be left to just anyone. At that time, Marie had experience taking care of her younger siblings, therefore she was able to enter the mansion as a nanny.

Erin said that at first, she didn’t know what to do because Briel used to strongly refuse Marie. While Erin had been worrying about finding a new nanny, Briel suddenly became attached to Marie. That was the day she took over this body and came into this world.

“Bu-“

Although he didn’t like to fall off with Marie, Briel seemed to struggle in Erin’s arms for some reason.

“Wait a minute, young master.”

However, since he couldn’t overcome Erin’s strength, he was forced to breastfeed.

“Has young master Briel eating food well?” Erin, who was feeding him, asked Marie with a small sigh.

“Yes, I’ve been mostly giving him small bits of cabbage.”

Currently, Briel was also allowed to eat baby food on top of breastfeeding.

“That’s good. My child doesn’t want to eat, so it’s been a big problem.”

“Are you referring to your first child?”

“Yes.” Erin had two sons, the first one being four years old.

“Hm…How about making your child’s food into his favorite shape?”

“Favorite shapes?”

“Yes. For example, if he likes horses, then shape the food like horses, and if he likes bears, shape the food like bears.”

“Oh, that sounds like a good idea.” Erin wondered if this would actually work, but Marie’s words seemed to make sense, so she thought that there was nothing wrong with trying. Anyway, Marie had also raised two younger siblings. In a way, she was more of an experienced parent than Erin was.

“Oh? You aren’t going to eat anymore, young master?”

Suddenly, Briel, who had two small front teeth, rejected Erin and reached out to Marie.

“Bu! Bu! Ah! Ah!”

After Marie gave Erin a few tips on raising two kids and was hugging Briel while patting his back so that he wouldn’t get indigestion, the Count came into the room. As a man who only had his nephew in his eyes, the Count had stepped out today to take a break. Of course, he would eventually still need to look at the work that had been pushed back in the office.

“Count.”

When Marie noticed and called out to him, Briel’s head turned around.

“Bu!”

A smile appeared on the Count’s face as if Briel had called out to him. “Have you been having fun?” He couldn’t hold the baby, so instead, he touched the little hand that was on Marie’s shoulder. The soft feeling was addicting to touch.

Briel laughed happily as he was gently poked.

“Oh?” It was then that the man discovered something new about his nephew.

“Did you see it?”

“Yes. He already has teeth.” The Count was shocked at his nephew’s growth. “I have been too distant…”

He reflected on the fact that he had not known until now that Briel’s teeth were coming in. No matter how busy with work he was, there was nothing more precious than his nephew and now he regretted it.

When she heard his words from the side, she couldn’t say anything because she was actually hoping that he would reduce his work. However, she prepared something special to cure his fatigue.

“There’s one more thing to see.”

“Hm?”

“Please take a look.”

She carefully lowered Briel to the floor.

Then Briel briefly rolled over and pushed up to sit on his butt by himself.

“!”

Although his nephew who was able to sit up on his own reached towards Marie for her to hold him, the Count’s face still had the happiest expression that she had ever seen from him before.

‘Seriously, who was the person who said that the Count was a cold person.’ Marie looked at his happy expression and quietly thought this.

Childcare Diary – Chapter 1

Translator Note: Hello! This is inueko here ~ This is my first time ever translating a novel and it’s purely for fun so that I can enjoy this novel because I’ve been really into childcare novels and manga recently (〃 ̄ω ̄〃) Just a heads up, I’m not very fluent in Korean so a lot of this was a mixture of google translate and my elementary Korean skills, lol.

I contemplated for a long time whether I should translate the ML’s title to Count or Earl which are equivalent; the only difference is that while ‘Count’ is used in a general European sense, the title of ‘Earl’ is exclusively British. Still debating whether I should replace the ‘Counts’ with ‘Earls’ just to avoid the possible confusion with the word’s double meanings… Let me know what you think in the comments please! Which would you prefer, Count or Earl?

Anyway, please be easy on me ~ And I hope you enjoy this novel as much as I do!

Somewhere, there was a place where cotton candy-like clouds floated in the blue sky, and warm sunlight illuminated the figures of cherubic fairies giggling and chatting happily. In this fairy tale-like place, a Count’s mansion resided in the reigning kingdom.

Here, a baby, with cheeks as white and soft as freshly made bread, was smiling and stretching his hands towards an elaborately crafted toy mobile.

“Has our little Prince Briel woken up?”

While looking at the baby, the woman’s voice, which was in a higher octave than usual, filled the baby’s bed before disappearing into the quiet air.

“If someone from the royal palace heard the words you speak so casually, you would’ve already been arrested for treason.”

Subsequently, the man’s low voice was opposite of the woman’s as it filled the room, but unlike his blunt words, it was evident that his mouth formed a gentle smile. The man seemed to resemble the baby, but their impressions were slightly different.

“It should be okay when it’s only the three of us.” The woman lightly dismissed his words and carefully held the baby as she ignored the man.

“How are you so cute~?” As she playfully waved and hugged him in her arms, a sound of satisfied laughter seemed to come from the baby. Then in a glimpse from the side view, one could see those plump cheeks overflowing. Those cheeks that smiled happily were also flushed pink.

After awhile, she noticed the man with envious eyes from the side.

“Would you like to try hugging him once?”

“Me?”

The man clumsily held out his arms with a slightly puzzled expression.

Looking at the awkward man, she carefully handed the baby over.

“This…is this way right?”

But unlike the warm and cozy arms a little while ago, there was an uncomfortable feeling that left the baby crying.

“Ah, what are you doing with your hands?”

If he could wrap his arms around the baby so that the baby could lean on his shoulders, that would be good, but with his hands tucked in his armpits, the man didn’t seem to know what to do.

“It’s not easy to control one’s strength. What if something goes wrong while you’re holding Briel in your arms?”

There was a possibility of it, and she shook her head after looking at his strong biceps that were several times larger than hers.

‘Even if this is in a novel world, I think it’s too much. He’s not some knight, he’s just a count…’

The Count family’s young master, who was just six months old, had just started eating baby food.

“That’s right, you’re eating so well! Just one more bite.”

The name of the baby who acted difficult when eating or waking up in the middle of sleeping was named Briel. Briel was unfortunately born shortly after his parents passed away and was adopted by his uncle who was a count.

“Do you need to burp, young master?” The woman who was feeding baby food to Briel wiped his mouth and gently hugged him while patting him on the back.

‘I saved your life, so you can’t forget me when you grow up.’ The woman sighed towards Briel who was unexpectedly smiling at her. Her name was Marie, and she was Briel’s nanny.

‘This scenario was definitely different from the original story.’

One day, she entered the novel and became a perfect nanny, taking advantage of her previous career as a nursery teacher. She then twisted the original plot and saved Briel who was only supposed to live for five months…

Originally, the Count would become blackened by the death of Briel, but currently, the both of them were living a smooth life.

“Bri…Er, young master, I think you’ve digested all the food now, so let’s try exercising.” Marie lowered Briel who she was holding and turned him over on the bed.

‘I almost called him Briel again. If I hadn’t practiced calling him young master, I would’ve frequently made mistakes.’ She sighed.

‘Come to think of it…the first time the Count saw me turn him over, he thought I was going to suffocate him.’ She remembered the past when she was surprised by the sharp sword suddenly pressing up against her neck.

[Like this, you should be able to do it by yourself. It’s about time you flipped over onto the surface of bed. ][T/N: This is flashback dialogue btw.]

Back then, he had listened to what she had said and lowered the sword with a contemplative expression.

‘Now I think I should have built some trust.’ When she thought about that time though, the situation had actually been quite innocent.

“Keung…Bububu!” [T/N: baby noises~~]

“It’s been hard for you, young master. Then shall we do it this way?”

How much longer would it be before he could turn over on his own? The baby, whose face turned red from exertion, raised his head while struggling with a sound. And then finally, she found that he had managed to turned over in place by himself!

She began to reminisce once again, singing a lullaby for the yawning and tired baby as she gently patted his back.

[T/N: Flashback starts~]

‘I must be in Heaven.’

The young woman admired the appearance of the cherub in front of her eyes. This had been the first time she had seen a baby that looked as if it had a shining halo on its head.

Anyway, during my life, I think I’ve been a good person. ‘

Large doe-like eyes stared at her, and in that moment, she had slowly moved towards the little angel without even realizing it.

‘It’s warm.’ That had been her first thought when touching the baby’s cheek. ‘But do angels have body temperatures like regular people?’

Soon after she realized that it was strange, she looked at her surroundings. This heaven looked like a setting taken right from medieval times. ‘Is Heaven actually designed in a Western style?”

As she was laughing in her mind, she returned to reality when a woman opened the door. Although one shouldn’t be judged by their appearance, the woman who opened the door had an appearance that definitely couldn’t be thought of as angelic. “Ah, the young master…For some reason, even when you poke him, he obediently stays still.”

‘Young master?’

After the words were spoken, the young woman turned her attention back to the baby. It was then that she could see those eyes still staring back at her.

‘Bright clear eyes.

For a moment, she forgot about the unfamiliar situation she was facing and gazed back at him.

“Marie, I’m going to return to work then, so please look after young master Briel well. If you are here today, he won’t cry so I can go.”

‘Marie…Briel…these names sounded familiar?’

Upon hearing those names, familiar sentences suddenly appeared in her mind. She recognized the names of the extras in a novel that she would always read during her work commute.

Normally she wouldn’t remember an extra’s name, but the situation was different because she was a nursery teacher. Because she liked children, she had chosen a career as a nursery teacher, so she almost always remembered when a child appeared in movies or dramas!

Wasn’t this the novel she was reading right before she died?

She called me Marie…’

She turned to look at the baby’s angelic face once again and felt goosebumps forming on her back.

‘This body that I took over had the role of the nanny who kills the baby!’

It wasn’t enough that she had been reborn into a novel, but with this role, she was even more frustrated with her circumstances.

‘How can I go back to my original world?’

At the beginning, it was the only thing she could think about for an entire week. She went to sleep with the anticipation that she might wake up back in her original world. But reality was cruel. After she was tired of the constant frustration and disappointment, it had been Briel who caught her eyes again.

‘What happens to Briel when I leave? It can’t be that he dies…’

When that thought passed, the goosebumps started to rise again.

‘That definitely can’t happen!’

Sharing her warmth with the small baby in her arms, Marie no longer felt that he was only just a character in a novel.

‘Okay, maybe the reason I was brought here was to save Briel.’

She had finally found a reason to stay and live in this novel’s world. And after the time had passed when Briel was supposed to have died, she was finally able to give up on returning to her original world.

That had been three months ago.

[T/N: Flashback end~]

“You’ve returned.”

Once again, the Count, who would always leave early for work at the royal palace, returned to the mansion today. Although he seemed to look around casually while standing at the entrance, Marie noticed the Count’s quick and attentive look at Briel’s face.

“Bu bu bu!” [T/N: hearing Briel’s babble makes me miss babies…]

And at that moment, Briel babbled as though greeting his uncle while trying to hug in his direction.

The Count, who turned his head reflexively, stepped up and reached out carefully to accept his nephew.

“You can’t do that, young master.” Suddenly, a solid wall appeared between the Count and his nephew. It was Marie. She turned around while protectively holding the baby and said firmly to the man, “Please wash your hands first, Count.”

When Marie had first acted this way, the servants’ eyes had been round with surprise as they stared at the nanny who dared to speak without hesitation towards the master who was always expressionless, but nowadays, they merely turned their heads and pretended that they couldn’t hear while carefully managing their facial expressions.

Knowing that there was nothing wrong with the nanny’s words, the Count just sighed and headed towards the bathroom.

“Alright, let’s have fun playing until the Count comes back~”

The Count, who was heading for the bathroom, paused for a moment at Briel’s laughter and turned around to look at his nephew with a regretful look.

Marie and Briel, who were oblivious to this, headed to Briel’s room on this floor to play together. In this world where there weren’t many baby toys, Marie mostly played games with the baby using her body. Right now, she was blowing on his tummy.

“Buuuuu!”

Briel, who was obviously feeling happy, had a big smile on his face.

“You’re having fun, aren’t you?”

Marie, who had pressed her face against the baby’s cheek, became somewhat aware of a quiet presence and raised her head to look around. “Don’t just stand there, come over here.”

Earlier, the Count had returned with slightly damp hair, but he couldn’t bear to get in between the two of them and had loitered around the door instead. [T/N: The original text is damp hair which seems random but I’m assuming he took a bath instead of just washing his hands]

‘You’ve acted like this many times already.’

Although the Count, more than anyone else, clearly thought that Briel was the cutest baby, he still didn’t seem to know how to express his feelings properly despite the obvious affection in his eyes.

‘Of course, you’re still just a beginner parent…’ In this case, Marie had no choice but to call out to him. Only then did the man approach with a soft expression on his face.

When his uncle came closer, Briel made a noise that was a bit different from usual.

“Bu! Ma! Bu! Ma!”

Although his nephew’s babbling noises were clearly very good, the Count was still awkward and could only stare back at his nephew while doing nothing, so she made a suggestion.

“How about I let you play ‘Peekaboo’ with us?”

“What? What is that?”

Perhaps, by now, Briel could also play ‘Peekaboo’ well.

“Please pay attention carefully.”

Marie hid her face behind her hands before suddenly opening her hands and exclaiming “Peekaboo!”

Briel laughed until he was out of breath.

On the other hand, the Count had a lost expression on his face as he stood next to her.

“…You want me to do that?”

From morning to evening, he only ever gave the slightest looks in the royal palace, but now the man who usually didn’t have any facial expressions suddenly furrowed his brows in a frown.

Marie wasn’t aware of his internal conflict and looked at him in anticipation.

‘Surely…’

Although Briel might not have understood their conversation, he also stared at the Count with a look of anticipation while the latter only sighed in response.

Then the Count slowly covered his eyes.

Where was the official who only had management reports in his sights all morning? Now, all that remained was a fool who was an idiot for his nephew.

“Peekaboo.”

Briel seemed to be aware of his uncle’s efforts and gave his uncle the brightest smile the man had ever seen.

“Did you see that?” He seemed both shocked and moved by his nephew’s reaction. “I’m going to try it again.”

The Count didn’t even wait for her to answer before ‘Peekaboo’-ing again. He seemed to entirely forget that Marie was also there.

After awhile, the Count and nephew pair seemed to be in their own happy little world.

During this happy moment, the butler had peeked inside the door just to check if they needed anything, but he quickly turned away from the intimate scene and quietly returned to work.
